Short Term Missions
The Christian & Missionary Alliance has a rich history of missions work. Who we are, as a family of Churches, has been greatly defined by engaging God's missional heart that we see throughout scripture. When looking at how we can continue to engage God’s missional heart, as a local church, short term missions are no doubt a part of how we work towards fulfilling the great commission found in Matt 28:18-20.
To do this effectively we choose to set up a long term relationship with a missions field rather than just short term trips that go to a different place every year.
We desire the purpose of our trip to work towards four main goals. First, we support the ministry of the missionary we are going to serve. Second, we want to see lasting kingdom growth in the community or church as we engage in service to them. Third, we want to see lasting heart change in those that go on the trip. Fourth, we want to see hearts of the people in our local church to be impacted by an increased engagement of God’s heart for missions
We see these things happening as we become servants in FIVE different areas. These are Prayer, Preparation, Funding, Going, and Reporting. Each one of these areas is necessary to seeing God work in and through Grand Centre Alliance.
Through much Prayer we have chosen to form a long term relationship with a missionary couple in Ecuador. This couple, Mark and Cheryl Shafer, are from Seattle, WA and have lived in Ecuador since 2002. They have an immense love and care for the people in Ecuador which has grown out of their love of Jesus. We want to be servants in the Kingdom of God and seek to serve Mark and Cheryl's ministry in our service to God. This may look quite different year to year, but we are excited to see what he does through us as we are gifted differently.
